| Stainless Steel |
Stainless steels offer a wide range of resistance to a variety of environments. Alloys such as 304L and 316L may be used in relatively mild environments where chloride pitting is of concern. AL 2003™ lean duplex stainless steel has replaced 316L in some applications where better pitting resistance is desired. Because it has a lower content of the costly raw materials Ni and Mo, AL 2003™ alloy tubing is comparable in cost to 316L tubing. For more severe environments, the super austenitic alloys, AL-6XN® and AL 4565TM, or the super ferritic SEA-CURE® and AL 29-4C® alloys, should be used. As of 2006, there are over 25,000 km of AL 29-4C® condenser tubing in service. |
